“I am a noticer. It is my gift. While others may be able to sing well or run fast, I notice things that other people overlook. And you know,
most of them are in plain sight. I notice things about situations and
people that produce perspective. That’s what most folks
lack—perspective—a broader view. So I give ’em that broader view . . .
and it allows them to regroup, take a breath, and begin their lives
again.” –Jones
There is a new book coming out on Tuesday. I finished this week and well it changed my perspective in many ways.
The book is called The Noticer, by Andy Andrews. If you want to know my thoughts for more information about the book go visit my book blog.
But there is something amazing going on along with this book. It is called The Noticer Project.
The website explains it much better than I could.
But it got me to thinking about those in my life I want to notice. So over the next few weeks I am going to notice those who have made a difference in my life.
Today is the School Edition...from Elementary to College....some people impacted me in ways that help make me who I am today.
So this week I am noticing...
Mrs Kimmel- My kindergarten teacher. I honestly believe my love of reading and knowledge come from this lady. I remember weekly balloon people, letter people, learning phonics, words, and to read. She was always smiling and made me feel special. I think she also stands out because of some things that happened in my personal life that year....I felt safe and loved by her. And I have never forgotten.
Miss Mullinax- my 5th grade teacher. She was a first year teacher and remember other classes being jealous of us because she made learning fun. She took me to my first college campus and encouraged us all to go to college. She taught me the color purple was the color of royalty...and her favorite. She was also my french teacher in middle school and she taught me to love Europe, the people, the culture... She made me realize I could do whatever I wanted to do.
Mrs Gilbert- my 7th and 8th grade Language Arts teacher. She introduced me to To Kill A Mockingbird, she put a love of grammar, and literature into my heart. She also recognized me as a great student. I will never forget when she choose me as her student of the year. To this date it is one of my fondest memories of school. She taught me to just be myself and to work hard at what I loved to do, learn.
Mrs Chastain- my 9th grade English teacher. Oh Mrs Chastain was an interesting sort...she taught me that all of Emily Dickinson’s poem could be sung to The Yellow Rose of Texas, to love latin roots, and she introduced me to the literature classics. Steinbeck, Orwell, and the like. I realized learning could be fun...even in high school!
Ann Hilyard- my RD my senior year at TFC. Mrs Ann was not a professor or anything but she did something so important for me that last year at TFC. She loved me through one of the worst times of my life. She constantly encouraged me, gave me flowers, sent me cards. She just loved me when my heart was broken. I will never, ever forget that.
So there you have my Noticer List for School.... I am really looking forward to noticing more special people in my life.
Have you noticed someone lately?
